Pros: +++ phone support is great! Their guys resolve issues timely and caringly. Cons: – if you’re booking a car and it’s let’s say 10:02 you’ll need to wait 13 minutes, because “you can’t select time in the past” and it goes only in 15 min increments. – you can’t type in the “report damage” fields

Rayshaun ?MrTehNoms? Thompson: I’ve been using Getaround for a long time, and used to rely solely on it. Renting specific cars on purpose used to be a hassle and is now impossible. No way to see all available cars in the area nor a way to see the entire reservation schedule for a car in-app. There used to be a way to see the schedule on the browser website, but that functionality was removed for some reason. They seem to be doing everything to make rentals more ‘streamlined’, but it’s only made my searches tedious.

Chris Ahmad: Used this app to rent a car last minute. ’15 Corolla, looked nice in the photos in the app. When I picked it up, there was damaged to the vehicle all over place, that was not shown in the photos online. Tried to submit photos in app, the feature wouldn’t work. Called support, they told me to submit images online. Later, I did another quick check of the vehicle, the rims are spray painted black, and the front bumper is attached with nails and screws. It is so tacky and unappealing. It’s a joke.

Alex Verbeck: App got much, much worse. Used to use this a lot back in the day, but the app barely works on a modern phone, car was broken, couldn’t end the trip inside the app. Still did technically work to get a car in a pinch, but use any alternative app instead of this, if you have a choice. The actual process has gotten much slower, too. You have to circle the car taking pictures, take a picture of the gas level, and so on. I would advise scheduling an extra half hour on your trip to deal with app problems, which of course you pay for.

A Google user: The worst car rental app in play store. I spent 10 minutes waiting for the car to unlock and my signal was perfect. After I was done with the trip and ended it, the car did not unlock even minutes after it had ended. I ended up having to rebook the car in order for the lock option to show up again. The craziest thing about this app is that you can’t call customer service after the trip ends even in situations where the car does not lock. Huge security loophole and bug.

A Google user: Great way to rent a car! App has some significant glitches. For example: when you select a time frame then zoom in or out on the map, it resets the time back to 1 hour, removing any cars that were available. Even more frustrating, the only way to find a car sometimes is to look at past rentals and selected “rent again.” Then you can see their availability. Otherwise you just have to pick random days and times until you find one.

A Google user: All around enjoyable the only suggestion I might have is about the milage limitation. For the most part it typically won’t cause any problems. But if you’re traveling for a long distance and don’t want to be charged an extra $100, may i suggest an option for the customer to pay a higher rate but get unlimited milage for the period bought keeping to pay for the extra mileage. Thus you could keep lower rates but charge more if that option is desired. Great experience overall.

A Google user: Overall the concept is great! The experience was very convenient to get into a car… BUT the accessability of vehicles was a major issue. They were over 35 miles away from my residence… And since I am without a vehicle of my own, for now, the extra cost of public and/or rideshare transportation to get to the cars I rented seemed to offset any profits I made as an Uber driver.

A Google user: PROS: Price, choice, and availability compared to Zip Car. Customer service was amazing throughout but 2 bad experiences CONS: 3 severely bad experiences that could be resolved with simple fixes. 1. Searching for the vehicle – When I got to the Newport Mall, I had issues finding the car. the GPS on the app was showing the car parked outside the mall. Would have been good if the app showed the parking level and aisle where the car was parked – they already have designated areas in the parking garage. That would have saved me 20 minutes of searching for the car. 2- Getting out of the garage – I put in the parking ticket into the machine and it tells me that I have a $185 charge! WHAT!? I had to get on the phone AGAIN and this time it took me 30 minutes to resolve . I had to charge my personal credit card $185, take a picture of the receipt and email the rep, the receipts to just get out of the garage. 3. Returning the car – APP issues again. After I return the car, the app refuses to update the car’s location and refuses to let me end the trip. I had to call the rep for the third time and take pictures of the vehicle and email them to make sure the trip ended properly.

A Google user: I have used Getaround numerous times. It is a great option when you need to run errands and Uber isn’t ideal either due to cost or the need to be flexible. The app works and Getaround’s customer service has always been able to take care of any glitches that have come up along the way. I recommend Getaround to everyone I know. The only constructive criticism I could give would be to give a more precise location at least 15 mins prior to the starting time for the cars that are street parked.
